The Euro Millions lotto was introduced by the national lotteries of France, Spain and the UK in February 2004. The first draw took place on February 13th 2004 in Paris. From the outset it was only these three countries who took part but a further 6 nations signed up towards the end of 2004; these were Austria, Belgium, the Republic of Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal and Switzerland.
The EuroMillions generates enormous excitement throughout Europe each week and this is mainly due to the large jackpots on offer. These jackpots are large because they are funded from the sale of lottery tickets right across the nine participating member nations. The starting jackpot each week is £11 million but this is often a great deal more due to the frequency of "rollovers". When no ticket matches the drawn lottery numbers in a given week, the jackpot rolls forward to the following week growing in size as it does so.
Every individual wishing to play the EuroMillions picks 5 main numbers from 1 to 50 and 2 "Lucky Star" numbers from 1 to 9. As the draw takes place, 5 main numbers and 2 lucky star numbers are then selected at random from two draw machines containing numbered balls.
The odds of selecting all seven drawn numbers and scooping the jackpot are a distant 1 in 76 million but the overall odds of winning any cash prize are a favourable 1 in 24. Due to these fairly poor jackpot odds, it is common for there to be regular rollovers with jackpots reaching £40-£70 million and in some cases where there have been many rollovers, jackpots as high as £125 million have been created. Here is a selection of some of the biggest Euro Millions
wins:
- In February 2008, the "Super Draw" jackpot of £130 million was collected by sixteen people who matched the 5 main numbers and 1 "Lucky Star" number.
- On 10 August 2007, a 40 year old former Royal Mail postal administrator from Scotland secured a Euro lotto jackpot of £52.6 million. To date, this is the biggest lotto win yet in the UK.
On the 17th of November 2006, after rolling over 11 times, the Euro Millions jackpot reached £183 million and was split among 20 lucky ticket purchasers.
The majority of tickets sold for the EuroMillions lotto draw are bought from lottery retailers within the nine participating countries. However, there are a couple of ways to play the Euro Millions regardless of where you live globally. You can now purchase your desired number of EuroMillions tickets from a licensed online lottery ticket sales agent. The only downside is that you often have to pay a hefty premium for these tickets; usually 3-4 times more than the cost of a ticket purchased from one of the member countries.
Another playing option is to join one of e-Lottery’s EuroMillions syndicates. Of course, any winnings have to be shared out equally among all syndicate members but you do play with a vastly increased chance of winning. This is a great cost effective option if you are looking to cut your odds down to something a little more realistic.
Over 190,000 People Have Chosen The Smarter Way To Play The Lottery
Did you know that during the six years in which e-Lottery has been running the syndicate system has built a membership of more than 190,000 individuals, from all walks of life, from right around the globe – from 133 countries and counting. They all have their own reasons for becoming e-Lottery members… but we believe they can all be summed up in just 5 main ones…
1. Greatly increased odds of a jackpot win
e-Lottery syndicate is 7 times more likely to win a UK National lotto jackpot and 36 times more likely to scoop a Euro Millions jackpot than an ordinary syndicate entering random numbers. This is because every UK syndicate is guaranteed to match at least 1 number in each UK lotto draw resulting in a 733% syndicate advantage. In each Euro syndicate both the "Lucky Star" numbers are guaranteed meaning that every Euro Millions syndicate holds an even greater 3600% advantage over the ticket buying public.
2. You receive more entries for your money
For your £5 weekly entry fee you share 44 lines in both the Wednesday and Saturday UK lotto draws – 88 in total each week. If you choose to play the Euromillions you will also be paying £5 for your share of 36 lines each week. If you want a real odds boost then play in both syndicates and receive 124 chances of winning each week for just £10.
3. There are multiple prizes on offer
Because the clever way in which the e-Lottery syndicate system has been designed, when your syndicate wins, it wins multiple prizes – 44 in total. You therefore receive a much larger slice of the prize fund which is a very pleasant bonus.
Total peace of mind
e-Lottery manages your syndicate in a very professional and dependable manner, ensuring your entry fees are collected and that your syndicate place is secured. You can therefore ‘set and forget’ your membership safe in the knowledge that you will be entered into your chosen draw(s) without fail for as long as you decide to remain a member.
5. There’s no beating the convenience and fun
Playing the lottery knowing that you are benefiting from the e-Lottery advantage makes the experience a lot more fun. There is no longer any need to go to the lottery retailer to purchase your lottery tickets and of course no danger of forgetting to buy a ticket – or even worse, losing it! This is because all transactions with e-Lottery are handled electronically. Each time your syndicate wins, you receive your share of 100% of the winnings which is paid to you via the payment method of your choice.
Playing the lottery really doesn’t get any easier than this!
